If you’re planning a tropical getaway to Rarotonga, you already know that inflatable pool toys and tubes are an absolute must for those sun-drenched beach days. But have you ever thought about what happens when your favorite float gets a little too much of the island sun? I recently shared a fun and eco-friendly idea on the Rarotonga Holiday Hub, and the response has been nothing short of amazing.
The Eco-Friendly Twist
We all love our pool toys, but sometimes—even in paradise—they can pop. And while it might be a bummer, there’s a creative solution that helps both you and the environment. Enter Circle Cook Islands! Instead of tossing those broken, yet still clean, inflatables into the landfill, Circle Cook Islands transforms them into stylish, one-of-a-kind designer bags. Imagine turning your vacation mishap into a chic souvenir that you can take home! Whether you bring your own inflatables or pick them up on the island, this innovative idea is a fantastic way to keep Rarotonga beautiful while making unforgettable memories.
Crafting Unique Stories
The story behind these inflatables is as unique as the bags themselves. Chelle, inspired by my post on Holiday Hub, decided to create her very own custom bag. She even ventured to New Zealand to find the perfect inflatable that she could use—and later transform—into her personalized accessory. At the end of her holiday, the “popped” inflatable arrived at my workshop, and I dove right into crafting her bespoke bag.
Meanwhile, I also received an order from Angela (from BLP), who dreamed of a special Te Aroa Crossbody bag made from recycled bike inner tubes. For the inflatable component, she chose the new arrival provided by Michelle. While working on her bag, Angela visited my studio on a Sunday to select her fabrics. When she saw the last Mihimana Crossbody bag on display, she couldn’t resist taking that one as well. And so, I found myself needing to create another custom piece!
A Post That Took Off
I couldn’t have imagined just how quickly the idea would catch on. My post blew up with over 300 likes in no time! In fact, not even a week later, Jodie popped by my tent early on a Saturday morning—before I’d even finished setting up—and fell in love with my latest creation, The Viani, that I’d just completed. She was so taken by it that she immediately took it home!
Unexpected Encounters and New Creations
The surprises didn’t stop there. Last week, I received an Instagram message from a customer who had seen my post and even picked up a floatie for me. Although we couldn’t arrange a studio meeting, Michelle and Maddison swung by the market on Saturday. They sent over a photo of a gorgeous cook-colored inflatable, and I was absolutely stoked to get my hands on such a vibrant piece. It turned out that Chelle even had two of these inflatables—now that’s dedication!
